August 20 1983 U2 perform in St. Goarshauren, Germany at the Loreley Ampitheatre, as part of the Loreley Festival. Other performers of note include "The Stray Cats", Joe Cocker and Steve Miller. The concert is shown live on WDR-TV, the first time U2 has performed live on TV. The show is later aired on radio in Germany on the "Rockpalast" radio series. The show has a major impact on U2 sales in Germany, and as a result two singles "Two Hearts Beat As One" and "40" are released in Germany only. The "40" single carries a sticker that says "The discovery of Loreley 1983". U2 listen to the radio recording of the concert and decide that certain songs were performed better here than at the Red Rocks concert on June 5th, 1983. Five songs from this show make it onto the "Under A Blood Red Sky" EP: "I Will Follow", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Electric Co.", "New Year's Day" and "40".

'Negativland releases U2 single' - AUGUST 20, 1991. Electronic band Negativland releases a single called "U2" on the SST record label. The song is a collage which includes unauthorized samples of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" song from 1987, plus outtakes of radio host Casey Kasem trying to introduce U2's song on his "American Top 40" program. The Negativland track catches the attention of Island Records, however, more for its packaging -- the letter "U" and the numeral "2" appear in large type, while "Negativland" appears in small print at the bottom.

"ZOOTV" tour - august 20, 1992. U2 perform in Foxboro, Massachusetts at Foxboro Stadium. The three concerts have U2 performing in front of approximately 150,000 fans. The first two shows sell out in one day and a third date is added. The gross earnings for the three shows is close to $4.5 million US. On the first night, Bono asks the crowd if anyone in the crowd had been present at the now infamous Paradise Theater show in 1980. As the almost 55,000 fans cheer, Bono laughs and replies, "I think we've got 55,000 liars here!" Larry performs "Whiskey In The Jar" tonight, much to the delight of the crowd. Support is B.P. Fallon, "Primus" and "Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy".

"ZOOTV-Zooropa" tour - august 20, 1993. U2 perform in London, England at Wembley Stadium.

"POPMart" tour - august 20, 1997. U2 perform in Hannover, Germany. U2 christens the site in Hannover, Germany, where "Expo 2000" will begin a little less than 3 years away, on June 1, 2000. Edge´s karaoke this night is "Suspicious Minds"

'U2 announces All That You Can't Leave Behind' - august 20, 2000. U2 announces All That You Can't Leave Behind as the title of their next album on the band's official web site. They also confirm a late Autumn release date and the full track listing for the album.

Bono and Ali in Sarajevo - August 20, 2006 - The 12th Sarajevo Film Festival in the Bosnian capital.

Bono and Queen Rania join the Sarkozys for dinner in France - August 20, 2008 - After a summer of entertaining star pals such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Robert De Niro aboard his yacht in France, there was another high profile engagement in store for rock star Bono this week. The U2 frontman and human rights campaigner was invited to join Queen Rania of Jordan at a dinner organised by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni at her family villa in Cap Negre, in the Var region of the French Riviera. Bono rendezvoused with the elegant Jordanian royal - who has been holidaying nearby in St Tropez - at a point close by the Bruni's property. The pair then boarded a helicopter which took them to their hosts. On their first proper break since their February wedding, the President and his First Lady have been unwinding in the south of France since the start of this month. They've been dividing their time between Carla's family estate and the official presidential summer residence of Fort of Bregancon, in the picture-perfect village of Bormes-les-Mimosas. source: hellomagazine
